When it comes to being cute – few animals hold a torch to Australia’s native possum.

Possums are nocturnal creatures, so you’ll often hear them scratching away when you’re trying to sleep at night.

This noise pollution is annoying, but more alarmingly: possums can cause fire hazards by chewing on electrical wires. Ticks and fleas may also hitch a ride on their fur, before sneaking into your home. It’s worth noting that possum faeces can stink out your entire home or workplace too!

• Nightly scratches and bangs coming from the roof
• Hissing sounds from the roof or walls
• Unexplained stains on the ceiling
• Overpowering smell of ammonia (from possum urine)
